Colours of Ostrava has certainly stepped out of the shadows and becames one of the most exciting events in Central Europe with line-up that could easily fit into biggest festivals like Glastonbury or Melt. This year’s headliner is the wonderful Sigur Rós, that will perform amongst other amazing artists, such as The XX, The Knife, Damien Rice and Bonobo. There will also be a Polish accent with performances by Anna Maria Jopek and Maria Peszek. Festival starts on 18th July 2013 and will last for four days.
Ostrava is 20km from the Polish border, 88km from Katowice, 165km from Krakow and 200km from Wroclaw. If you’re tired of Open’er Festival, it’s repetitious line-up and ridiculous ticket prices – here’s your alternative! You can save 150 zlotys and skip festival, that’s really disappointing this year.
The history of Colours of Ostrava starts in 2002 in a quiet space called Black Meadow, where 14 international acts and many local bands performed on six stages. This year’s line-up has over 100 artists, half of which are from outside of the country. Cocorosie, Regina Spektor, Alanis Morrisette, Bobby McFerrin, Animal Collective, The Flaming Lips and Janelle Monáe – these are only few names that have visited Czech festival. So far Iceland was represented by Hjaltalín and Árstíðir.
Last year the festival has been moved to a brand new location – Dolní Vítkovice, an industrial area of former mines and smelting plants with a unique atmosphere.
It definitely worth to visit Ostrava and its amazing festival and feel great atmosphere that Czech Republic in known for. It is a must see, must visit, must experience for everyone, who loves summer music festivals.
